  Val says, “I’m coming too.”

  Marcel glances at me, and I nod. I can easily handle two humans and a black bear, so it’s not a problem.

  “Fine,” says Marcel. “You can follow us to Jean Luc’s office. He’s on his way.”

  As we walk toward the administration building I notice the girl is crying for real. She’s either a good actress or bad at her job. Val whispers words of encouragement to her as Marcel moves at a quick pace. His unconditional love for her is pathetic, because once he finds out he’s fallen for a hunter, he’ll be worse off than Marcel or I ever were.

  The woman I’m holding is silent and follows along as if she knows it’s best to comply. Those are the ones to watch out for, and I wish I could read minds so I could figure out what she’s got planned. When we get to the building, I tug open the door and glance at Val. His bear is flashing in his eyes, and he glares at me as if I’m the bad guy in this situation. He says, “Don’t worry, Kelsey. This will all be over soon.”

  I think back to the way I was hunted, and the fact I lost my lucrative job, and can’t even live with my clan because the men are still looking for me. If these two women are connected to them, we now have leverage, and I have a chance at revenge. I snarl at Kelsey’s lover and say, “Wrong. It’s just begun.”
